Our Story

Planting Trees, Restoring Hope

Delugees Environment Organization (DEO) is a community-rooted initiative in Kenya, dedicated to equipping the next generation with the knowledge, skills, and action needed to fight climate change.

Our journey began in 2022, when our Founder, Shem Mutulu, coined the word “Delugees” – derived from English word “DELUGE,” meaning floods – to describe people displaced or disadvantaged by extreme weather like floods or simply “climate refugees”.

This award-winning entry in AimHi Earth’s (Future Dictionary Competition – UK, 2022) became more than just a word. It became an inspiration and a movement.

Our Vision

To cultivate the next generation of climate leaders and resilient communities through climate education, tree planting, and technology for sustainability that restores dignity and amplifies lasting impact.

Our Mission

Delugees exists to nurture the next generation of climate leaders by combining climate education with hands-on tree planting in schools, especially in underserved communities.

We restore ecosystems, empower pupils and local communities, and use sustainable technologies to measure and scale impact, turning climate anxiety into action, dignity, resilience, and lasting change.

Our Core Values

  • Dignity – We uplift voices and restore hope in underserved communities.
  • Action – We turn knowledge into hands-on solutions that make change real.
  • Innovation – We use smart, sustainable technologies to amplify impact.
  • Transparency – We stay open, honest, and accountable in all we do.
  • Resilience – We nurture leaders and communities that can thrive despite climate challenges.
  • Sustainability – We protect and restore the Earth for future generations.
  • Safeguarding – We put the safety and dignity of children and communities first.
